Clairos is an independent software studio founded in Arkansas. We build software for real estate, mathematics, journaling, weather, creative work, and whatever else becomes interesting enough to build.
This is not a particularly conventional business strategy. We are comfortable with that.
How this happened
A remarkable amount of software makes ordinary things unnecessarily complicated. A calculator should not require a tutorial. A journal should not feel like a social network. Professional software should not make complicated work even harder.
So we started building alternatives. One project became another. Eventually, the collection became a company. The organizational chart remains admirably compact.
Small company. Serious engineering.
We use modern development tools, including artificial intelligence, when they genuinely help. A clever implementation means little if the resulting software is unpleasant to use.
Technology is the machinery. The experience is the product.
Our applications do not need to share an industry or an obvious reason for existing. They do need to be useful.
A few things we believe
Your attention belongs to you. Software should not manufacture unnecessary work.
Complexity belongs behind the interface. A simple task should remain simple.
Privacy should be practical. We favor local processing where appropriate and clear explanations of connected services.
Independence is useful. It gives us room to build unusual things and occasionally ignore conventional advice.
What comes next?
More software, probably. Some practical. Some experimental. Some that will make sense only after it is built.
We take the work seriously. Ourselves, considerably less so.
